DU symposium on Green Chemistry

NEW DELHI: Delhi University has joined hands with the New Jersey Institute of Technology to organise a four-day Second International Symposium on Green / Sustainable Chemistry. The event will be held in the Botany Department from January 10.

The symposium will focus on emerging green chemicals, processes and technologies and their applications in different industries. Experts from the US, Britain, Belgium, Pakistan, South Korea, Mauritius, Germany, Italy and France will take part.

Traders welcome SAFTA

NEW DELHI: Welcoming the recently enforced South Asia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA), the Confederation of All India Traders has said that it would open new doors for Indian products in the global market. It would also enable Indian products to compete with Chinese products in South-East Asia.

Encouraged by the new development, the Delhi Scooters Traders Association will organise a four-day India International Two-Wheeler Auto Show 2006 here from March 10.

Six new subways

NEW DELHI: Delhi will have six new subways on important roads, State Public Works Development Minister A.K. Walia announced here on Thursday at a meeting convened to review the progress of subways in the city.

The new subways will be constructed on Ring Road at Basai Darapur, Nigambodh Ghat, Nangloi near School Complex on National Highway 8, Shastri Nagar, Panchsheel and Ganesh Nagar.

Notices in stamp paper case

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to the Centre, the Delhi police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a petition seeking setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) or the city police to probe the fake stamp paper scam case here.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma issued the notices for March 21 on a petition by Puran Singh, dismissed Inspector of the city police and one of the accused in the case, accusing CBI of hushing up certain seizures and shielding certain accused in the case.

Risk of heart disease

NEW DELHI: Delhi Medical Association president K.K. Aggarwal has said that having a sibling with a heart disease carries the same or greater risk as having a parent with a history of the disease. Quoting a recent study Dr. Aggarwal said personal risk of having a cardiovascular problem is raised by as much as 45 per cent in middle aged people whose brother or sister has had such an event. This is due to the fact that siblings have similar lifestyle related risk factors and may be of similar age.
