Honour for Bombay sisters

CHENNAI
: The 77th annual music festival of Rasika Ranjani Sabha was inaugurated on Tuesday by N. Murali, Joint Managing Director of The Hindu and president of the Music Academy.
Mr. Murali recalled Music Academy's association with the Sabha when the Academy's festival used to be held on the Sabha premises. He urged corporates and industrial houses to extend their support to the Sabha's plan to set up a state-of-the-art auditorium with modern facilities.
R. Ramachandran of Hamsadhwani, who traced the Sabha's history, said the proposed auditorium would be a model for others in the city.
Musician Lalgudi G. Jayaraman conferred the `Kala Ratna' title on Bombay sisters, C. Saroja and C. Lalitha and presented them a gold medal, citation and cheque for Rs. 25,000.
Vidwan T.K. Govinda Rao offered his felicitations to the awardees.Sabha president A. R. Santhanakrishnan gave details about the Sabha's initiatives and on the auditorium project. Secretary R. Nagarajan appealed to `rasikas' for continued patronage.
