HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in the State capital late on Friday evening on a 20-hour visit for the inaugural of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD). He was received at the airport by Governor Sushilkumar Shinde, Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, some State Ministers and party leaders. However, those waiting in the specially-erected pandal for the official reception were disappointed as Dr. Manmohan Singh got into his car directly after disembarking from a special Indian Air Force aircraft and drove away to Raj Bhavan.
Change in programme
It was left to Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy to saunter up to the reception pandal and meet those who were waiting to greet the Prime Minister. Dr. Reddy asked officials as to why guests had not been informed about the change in the Prime Minister's programme. He was told information to this effect had come from the PMO only around 8 p.m. The invites had already reached the guests by then and it was too late to inform them. After the inaugural of PBD on Saturday, Dr. Singh will inaugurate the Silver Jubilee Seminar on "Perspectives on equitable development: International experience and what can India learn."
Golden jubilee fete
Dr. Singh will also visit Andhra Yuvathi Mandali to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of the school established by the Mandali. Established in 1955, Sisu Vihar was started by the Mandali as a Montessori school for lower class and lower middle class students.
