Youth diverts attention of car driver, escapes with Rs. 2.2 lakhs

When Noorullah Khan's driver Moula was in the car, a youth came and told him that some currency notes were lying near the vehicle

BANGALORE: A youth on Friday diverted the attention of the car driver of a transport company's managing director and made away with a briefcase containing Rs. 2.2 lakhs in cash, which was in the vehicle.

The police said that around 10.30 a.m., Noorullah Khan, managing director of a private transport company, got down from his car on Palace Road and went to a mosque.

When Noorullah Khan's driver Moula was in the car, a youth came and told him that some currency notes were lying near the vehicle.

When Moula got down from the vehicle and started picking the notes, the youth made away with Noorullah Khan's briefcase that was in the car.

On a complaint by Noorullah Khan, the High Grounds police have registered a case and are investigating.

Man robbed

A three-member gang waylaid a man and robbed him of a gold chain and a mobile phone in Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits on Thursday night.

The police said that around 10.15 p.m. the armed men stopped Vishwanath who was riding on a motorcycle near Kamalammanagundi playground.

They threatened him with a knife and robbed him of the chain and the phone. Vishwanath, a resident of Srikanteshwara Layout, chased the three persons, but in vain, the police said.

Chain snatched

An alert public chased and caught a youth who allegedly snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 10,000 from a woman in Ashoknagar police station limits on Thursday.

The police said that around 8.30 p.m. a youth came from behind and snatched the chain from Lekha, a resident of Aneplaya, while she was going to her mother's house.

When Lekha raised an alarm, people chased and caught the youth.

The police have arrested him, and the accused has been identified him as Habib (24) of Anepalya.
