NEW DELHI: Over 27 organisations including the Forum for Democratic Initiatives, All India Students' Association, All India Co-ordination Committee of Trade Union (AICCTU), Kahipur Solidarity and Kranatikari held a protest demonstration outside Orissa Niwas here on Friday against the police firing on tribals at Kalinga Nagar on January 2 that left a dozen dead.

Addressing the gathering, the convenor of the Forum for Democratic Initiatives, Radhika Menon, said: "Police firing on innocent tribals had enraged all democratic people of the country. This demonstration has been called to register our solidarity with the struggling tribals of Orissa and to raise our voice against this bloody and brutal oppression in the name of industrialisation and development."
