Bidar: Various organisations held a road roko in Bidar on Saturday in protest against the move to transfer Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil, who is leading a demolition drive in the city. The Public Property Protection Committee, an umbrella organisation of over 30 associations, organised the protest. The Committee has threatened to organise a "Bidar Bandh" on January 10, if "land grabbers do not stop efforts to transfer Mr. Moudgil".
Slogans raised
Committee members blocked the five roads from Ambedkar Circle in the morning for over an hour and raised slogans against the Government, which, they said, was harassing pro-poor officials. Forest Minister and District In-Charge Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli and Member of Parliament Narsingrao Suryavanshi are putting pressure on Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh to transfer Mr. Moudgil, which is unfortunate, CPI(M) district general secretary Vijay Kumar Sonare said. "The Union Government has declared Bidar as one of the 50 most backward districts of the country. There is no well-equipped government hospital here. The State Government plan to start a Government medical college is welcome. But land grabbers have built houses on land belonging to the proposed medical college and are refusing to go away. He threatened to launch a State-wide agitation if the Government stops the demolitions or transfers Mr. Moudgil. PPPC members submitted a memorandum to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi and dispersed.
