Delimitation: CPI criticises Pondicherry Government

Special Correspondent

Alleges failure to implement poll promises

PONDICHERRY: The Secretary of the Pondicherry State Communist Party of India (CPI), N. Kalainathan, MLA, has mounted scathing attack on the Congress Government headed by N. Rangasamy. Addressing newsmen on Saturday he said that the Administrative Committee of the State unit of the party held earlier under the chairmanship of A.M.Saleem had resolved to mobilise the support of all like-minded parties to launch a sustained movement and agitation against the government.

Kalainathan said that the ruling Congress was blocking the enforcement of the order of Delimitation Commission re-fixing the number of constituencies of the territorial Assembly. Mr. Kalainathan said that the anti-people policies of the government had come to cause concern to every section of people.

He listed the areas where the failure of the government was most glaring. The government had delayed holding of civic polls although the concept of panchayati raj was dearest to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Mr. Kalainathan said that no white paper had been released in respect of the works taken up for rehabilitation of the tsunami-hit people.
