KOLKATA: ITC has won the Golden Peacock Award for excellence in corporate governance 2005, according to a company release. The award jury, under the chairmanship of Justice P. N. Bhagwati, former chief justice of India, chose ITC as winner in the private sector. The release said the Union Defence Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, would present the award, instituted by the Institute of Directors, New Delhi, in association with the World Council for Corporate Governance and the Centre for Corporate Governance, at the 16th World Congress on Total Quality on January 20 in New Delhi. Pointing out that ITC was the first Indian company to seek corporate governance rating voluntarily, the release said this took place at three interlinked levels in the company.
