NEW DELHI: Several activists of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) were detained by the New Delhi police when they tried to march towards the Prime Minister's house on Saturday protesting against cut in the ration subsidies announced by the Central Government on Friday. According to the police, some women delegates had gathered at the residence of the Communist Party of India secretary D. Raja in the afternoon to protest against the cuts in the ration subsidies. They then began moving towards Prime Minister's house where prohibitory orders are in force. The police detained the demonstrators and brought them to Chanakyapuri police station. CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan and Mr. Raja also reached the police station. After a brief detention, the women delegates were let off. A senior police officer said since prohibitory orders were in place around the Prime Minister's house, the police had no option but to detain the protestors.
