VHSS youth festival to begin on Wednesday

KOCHI: The 9th Ernakulam Regional Vocational Higher Secondary School (VHSS) Youth Festival will be held at Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Edappally North, on January 11, 12 and 13.

The festival will be inaugurated by Fisheries and Sports Minister Dominic Presentation on Thursday morning. K. Babu, MLA, will preside over the function, said organising secretary Vipinendrakumar and programme coordinator Manju Navas, who addressed a press conference here on Saturday.

K. Chandran Pillai, MP, will deliver the keynote address. Mayor Mercy Williams will release the festival supplement.

VHSE director Sajith Vijayaraghavan will inaugurate the Ernakulam Regional Production/Service cum Training Centre. District panchayat vice-president K.N. Sugathan, Corporation Education Standing Committee chairperson K.J. Maxi, Edappally block panchayat vice-president A.R. Bose, Eloor grama panchayat president C.P. Usha and PTA president Shaji Edappally will speak on the occasion.

More than 1000 students from 65 schools in Kottayam and Ernakulam districts will take part in the competitions to be held in the venue named after the former President late K.R. Narayanan.

The Mayor will inaugurate the valedictory session on Friday evening. District panchayat president P.S. Shyla will preside. Deputy Mayor C.K. Mani Sankar, Edappally block panchayat president Ikkoran, Kalamassery municipal chairperson V.M. Arifa, Cheranelloor grama panchayat president M.A. Mathew and Higher Secondary Principal K.A. Kuriakose will speak. Actor Jayasoorya, music director Alex Paul and actor Rajeev Kalamassery will distribute the prizes.

The results will be declared on the basis of grading, according to the organisers.
