Surabhi fair begins on Wednesday

KOZHIKODE: Surabhi, the Kerala State Handicrafts Apex Cooperative Society, will hold an exhibition and sale of handicrafts and handloom items at the CSI Cathedral hall here from January 11 to 25.

Handicraft products from across the country will be on show at the exhibition.

Among the products that will be exhibited are hand-woven fabrics, silver and pearl jewellery, sculpture from sandalwood and other wood, toys, palm leaf products, bamboo and cane work, paintings, aromatic oils and terracotta products.

The items are manufactured by the artisan cooperative societies.

As many as 103 primary societies with more than 30,000 artisans as members are part of the Surabhi Apex Society.

The objective of such fairs is to provide a legitimate price for the products manufactured by artisans, the organisers said.

District Industries Centre general manager Josit Kurien will inaugurate the fair on Wednesday. The fair will be on from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
