Exhibition of products made by the groups inaugurated

YET ANOTHER ASSISTANCE: Collector S. Murugaia giving away a mobile phone to a self-help group member in Dindigul on Sunday.

DINDIGUL: Steps would be taken to develop activities of self-help groups.

Inaugurating an exhibition of products made by SHGs here on Sunday, Collector S. Murugaia said that they would be assisted to start Internet browsing centres.

Infrastructure for marketing their products would be created to tap rural market. Commercial complexes would be constructed at 10 places in the district to help consumers get all their products at one place. Creation of supermarket style marketing network would boost sale of their goods.

The groups should give up their old business and shift to modern trade such as Internet and computer training centres to expand their customer base. They would be given computer training to do so. Financial assistance would be extended shortly to those who had undergone computer training imparted by District Rural Development Agency to start browsing centres.

Banks have been extending micro credit to SHG women liberally because of their prompt repayment. They should realise their potential and tap all resources provided by the government and banks. A revolving fund of Rs.1.54 crores was disbursed to 617 groups and economic assistance of Rs.1.15 crores to 127 groups this year.

P.V. Ramachandran, Assistant General Manager, Canara Bank, said the bank has decided to cover one lakh SHGs. SHG credit capacity ratio was 110 per cent.

Earlier, the Collector inspected the products displayed at over 40 stalls and disbursed welfare aid including mobile phones worth Rs.23 lakh to SHG women.

T. Palanisamy, Lead Bank Manager, K. Sharma, NABARD Assistant General Manager, and P. Murugesan, Project Officer, DRDA, took part.
