GULBARGA: Women outnumbered men in securing gold medals and cash awards in the postgraduate and undergraduate examinations of the Gulbarga University in the last academic year. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi, who is the Chancellor of the university, will give away the medals and the cash awards will be given away at the 24th convocation of the university on Monday. Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar, Higher Education Minister D. Manjunath and Vice-Chancellor V.B. Coutinho will be present at the convocation. Of the 79 students selected for gold medals and cash prizes, 43 were women. Deepali Raj, an MBA student, and M. Somashekara of the Kannada Postgraduate Department, have each won seven gold medals. While two students won five gold medals and cash prizes each, three won four gold medals and cash prizes each, followed by eight students winning 3 gold medals and cash prizes each and 16 students bagging two gold medals and cash prizes each. Following is the list of winners of gold medal and cash prizes: Arts: M. Somashekara (seven gold medals for securing highest marks in Kannada postgraduate examinations), Ganti Lakshmi Devi (three gold medals in Kannada PG examinations), Shulabai Hitavant (highest marks in PG diploma in Vachana Sahitya), P. Sunil Kumar (two gold medals for highest marks in M.A. Kannada from PG Centre Raichur), K.C.
