A peer team from the National Assessment and Accreditation Committee (NAAC), an appraisal wing of the University Grants Commission (UGC), visited the TTD-run Sri Venkateswara Arts College recently. The team, headed by A.P. Padhi, former Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University and comprising of Abraham George, principal of Tiruvalla College, Kerala and A. Balasubramanyam, Director, Educational Multimedia Research Centre, Mysore, made a personal evaluation of its academic accomplishments, infrastructure and teaching quality among other parameters.
Diamond jubilee
The development could not have come at a better time as the college, run under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management, is celebrating its diamond jubilee (60th anniversary) this year. The alumni of the college include former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and former Speaker of State Assembly, Agarala Eswara Reddi. The college, which offers traditional courses like BA, BCom and BSc, both in Telugu and English media, has 11 science departments with well-equipped laboratories, a modern library and a state-of-the-art gymnasium, a computer centre, a sprawling playground, besides three NCC and NSS units each.
Self Study Report
The visit was based on a Self Study Report (SSR) submitted by the college to the UGC in November last year seeking NAAC accreditation. The team members also interacted with the faculty, students, parents, alumni and prominent members of the public for personal feedback on the profile of the college. TTD's Education Officer K. Chengaiah Chetty and principal of the college G. Somasundaram accompanied the team members.
