Beach festival from Wednesday

Sports and cultural programmes to be held

Thrissur: A beach festival is being held at Nattika, near here, from January 11 to 15. Beach volleyball and football competitions and a motorcycle race will be held on Wednesday. A painting exhibition will be conducted the following day.

Minister for Labour Babu Divakaran will inaugurate a seafood festival on Friday. Minister for Public Works M.K. Muneer will formally inaugurate the festival the same day. Minister for Cultural Affairs A.P. Anil Kumar will light the traditional lamp.

T.N. Prathapan, MLA, will preside over the function. C.K. Chandrappan, MP; the Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader M.A. Baby; V.R. Prabodhachandran, Chairman, Kerala Kalamandalam; and R. Rajagopala Kurup, Additional District Magistrate, will speak.

The meeting will followed by a presentation of traditional art forms of Kashmir, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar, Rajasthan, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttaranchal by the Song and Drama Division of the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

Ghazal

Shahbaz Aman will present a Ghazal programme on Saturday. Minister for Tourism K.C. Venugopal will address the valedictory function. Speaker Therambil Ramakrishnan; K.S. Radhakrishnan, Vice-Chancellor; Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit; E.K. Bharat Bhushan, Tourism Secretary; and Balachandran Vadakkedathu, Secretary, Kerala Kalamandalam, will speak.

A programme, led by the playback singers Vidhu Prathap and Rimi Tomy, will follow.
