Teachers' importance

This refers to the article, "The attributes of a successful teacher" (Open Page, Jan. 1). The buildings, laboratories, libraries, and all other physical equipment in a school count, but it is the dedicated and committed teachers who make these worthwhile.

It is they who are the sculptors of a country's future. Discipline is never a problem in a classroom where the teacher interacts with students, smiles, teaches, and also understands the taught.

Sadly, teachers of such qualities are rare these days.
