WORDS OF SOLACE: Mata Amritanandamayi consoling a devotee during darshan at Vellimadukunnu in the city on Sunday.
KOZHIKODE: The annual Brahmastana Mahotsavam began here on Sunday. Mata Amritanandamayi gave darshan to devotees at 11.30 a.m. at the Amritanandamayi Nagar at Vellimadukunnu here. In her benedictory address, Mata Amritanandamayi said these days people not only hate others but also hate themselves. This, she said, had led to an increase in mental problems and suicides. She added that people were more conscious about their health, but they should also be concerned about their mind and intelligence. "We should also have a control over our thoughts," she said. The festival began at 6 a.m. `Sree lalitha sahasranamaarchana,' `amrityogadhyanam' and `bhakthiganasudha' were held as part of the mahotsavam. `Chovadoshanivaranapuja' will be performed at 5 p.m. on Monday. `Rahudoshanivaranaouja' will be held at 7.30 a.m. and `shanidoshanivaranapuja' at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Mata will leave for Vallikkavu in Kollam district on Wednesday.
