ONGOLE: The police on Sunday arrested an engineering college student and a plumber for allegedly killing a housewife at the busy court centre here on October 21 last and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs from them. Speaking to newsmen, SP N. Balasubramanyam said that Chiranjeevi Reddy, 24, a petty offender befriended Pappula Kirankumar Reddy, 22, studying in third year B.Tech course in QIS Engineering College at an Internet centre. With an intention to visit Hyderabad, Bangalore and Goa to "enjoy life," they planned to commit a theft to mobilise money. As part of the plan, they went to the house of Chaulavadi Lakshmikumari, 39, on the court street at 3 p.m. on October 21 on the pretext of repairing water pipes. They then stabbed her to death and decamped with 18 sovereigns of gold ornaments. After painstaking efforts, the police zeroed in on the accused persons.
