CUDDALORE : A new wing housing the labour ward or child delivery ward will come up at the Cuddalore headquarters Government Hospital at a cost of Rs. 2 crores. A 100-bed labour ward would also be constructed at the Chidambaram taluk Government Hospital at a cost of Rs. 2 crore. The State Government has given its approval for utilising World Bank funds for the purpose, Collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi said. At a consultative committee meet here on Saturday, Mr. Bedi said the Government had approved various developmental works at government hospitals across the district. An amount of Rs. 52.82 lakhs has been earmarked for repair, renovation works and water supply at the headquarters hospital here. Rs. 20 lakhs from the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana for maintenance and Rs 10 lakhs for improving amenities in the existing labour ward. Mr. Bedi said proposals have been sent seeking Rs 1.50 crores for increasing the number of beds in the intensive care unit and burns section, and for buying two ambulances for the accident and trauma care wing. For the Chidambaram hospital, Rs. 6.20 lakhs had been sanctioned for renovation and Rs. 7.05 lakhs to augment facilities in the women and child care unit.
