Serra triumphs at Adelaide

ADELAIDE: Florent Serra beat Xavier Malisse 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday to win the Adelaide International for his second ATP title.

Serra, who finished last season ranked No. 49, converted all six of his breakpoint chances, while Malisse, bothered by a blister, wasted three breakpoints in the opening game.

Kuznetsova advances

Former U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova overcame a dogged Shinobu Asagoe 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 on Sunday to advance to the second round of the Sydney International tennis tournament.

Federer keeps crown

Roger Federer went a long way towards dispelling doubts about his fitness to remain World No. 1 for a third successive year with a successful defence of his Qatar Open tennis title at Doha on Saturday.
