HYDERABAD : The much-awaited Agriculture Technology Mission of the State will be launched on January 15 by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. This was announced by Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy here on Saturday following an all-party meeting at which the mission's concept paper released by the Government was discussed. Representatives from Telugu Desam, Congress, CPI(M), CPI, BJP and Janata Party attended the meeting and they, by and large, welcomed the mission. The Chief Minister will be the mission's chairman. It will have five members, all agriculture experts, and a deputy chairman. They are yet to be named.
Monitoring authority
Mr. Reddy told reporters later that the suggestions made by the parties had been incorporated in the guidelines finalised for the mission. The mission would not work as a parallel organisation to the different existing agriculture departments but coordinate all of them to achieve the final goal --happiness to farmers. They would come under one umbrella, the mission, the Minister said. He said maize/jowar processing units were being set up at four places in the State, including Hyderabad and Nanyal.
