List of works to be entrusted to volunteers to be finalised soon

  • Students, teachers and others volunteer to offer their services
  • An effort to open up the party to thinking minds, says APCC chief
  • YSR interacts with members of teaching and student communities

HYDERABAD : It is a common sight to see aspiring politicians contributing their efforts for major political events.

But rarely does some one see members of student, teachers, lawyers and other communities volunteering to offer their services at political functions.

This follows the Congress leadership's decision to involve people from various walks of civil society in the successful conduct of the 82nd plenary session of the All India Congress Committee.

The APCC has roped in post-graduate students and teachers of several colleges as volunteers for the plenary on Sunday and according to its president K. Keshava Rao, efforts are underway to involve more sections.

    Positive interaction

"This is an effort to open up the party to the thinking minds," says Mr. Keshava Rao claiming that the event will facilitate more positive interaction between civil society and the Congress helping them understand the party better.

"There are of course no political overtones in the entire effort," Mr. Rao said.

The list of works that would be entrusted to members of civil society would be finalised by January 13 or 14.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who interacted with members of teaching and student communities, said the event would provide a platform for students to interact with people from different regions and understand their language, culture and other aspects.

"Besides, this will also provide the much-needed exposure which the students need the most," he said.

The event would form part of the extra-curricular activities of students and give them valuable experience due to their interaction with delegates from different regions.
