AMARAVATHI (GUNTUR DT.): The Dalai Lama on Sunday appealed to some 7,000 Tibetans participating in the Kalachakra initiation programme to shun violence and have love for others. "We must understand that life is dependent on other human beings," he told the pilgrims from Tibet who had come here to listen to their religious leader. The Dalai Lama said that Buddhism advocates realization by people that life was not independent. There is nothing that can survive without depending on the rest," he said. "While the Tibetan Youth Congress advocates complete independence for Tibet, I advice the middle path of working with the Chinese Government if it comes forward to develop the region," he said, adding that survival was possible only if one had love and not hatred for the rest. The Dalai Lama said that Buddhism teaches that individual and sangham (society) were inseparable. An individual should be able to realise the importance of other individuals and things and begin to love and care for them, he said. This realisation was possible if one followed the teachings of Buddha, he said. The morning session began with preaching amid the chanting of hymns by the disciples and other monks. The evening session continued with the priests working on creating the sand `mandala,' which was scheduled to be concluded by January 12, when the actual programme of empowerment of Kalachakra would begin.
