HYDERABAD: If the nation is to move forward on the path of progress Bihar has to be developed and the JD-BJP Government will strive to achieve it, Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, has said. At a felicitation function organised by the State BJP here on Sunday, he described as "national duty" the Government's task to usher in development, opening a new chapter in the troubled State's chequered history. "Development is possible if the ruling dispensation resolves to improve the lot of the poor. We are committed to this and `dharmapalan' (rule of justice)", he said.
Popular mandate
He promised that the Government would strive to change the face of Bihar. "I am confident of achieving this because of the popular mandate given by people who have given us an opportunity to work and had expressed faith in the two parties." The Government had taken up the task of development by implementing a programme of good governance. It was not easy, as a massive reform process had to be put in place. The election results, which he described as victory of unity had become topic of discussion in every household, he said, adding that Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer K. J. Rao's role in ensuring an impartial and peaceful poll was immense. Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Susheel Kumar Modi said the new Government had the Herculean task of meeting funds for employees' salary/pension and repaying loans. But people were optimistic, he said and appealed to industrialists/entrepreneurs from the State to invest in Bihar. State BJP leaders K. Laxman and B. Dattatreya showered praise on Mr. Kumar and Mr. Modi for ending "jungle raj" in Bihar. They expressed confidence that the NDA-led Government would bring in Ram raj.
