THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has urged the Chief Minister to institute a thorough investigation into the death of Swami Saswathikananda. In a statement here on Saturday, Mr. Achuthanandan said he was making this demand in the wake of new reports suggesting that Swami Saswathikananda, who was believed to have drowned in the Periyar while taking bath three years ago, was actually murdered. He noted that the demand by Swami Saswathikananda's mother for a detailed investigation into the incident had fallen on deaf ears. The new reports suggest that a hired goonda, wanted by the police in connection with the murder of a youth named Praveen hailing from Ettumanoor, had a role in Swami Saswathikananda's death, Mr. Achuthanandan said.
