MANGALORE: Leading citizens of Mangalore came together under the auspices of Prof. M.B. Puranikara Abhinanda Samiti to felicitate educationist and social activist M.B. Puranik at a function here on Sunday. Lectures, cultural programmes and a blood donation camp marked the festivities which culminated in public felicitations to Prof. Puranik for his achievements. Vishvesha Tirtha Swami of Sri Adhokshaja Pejavar Mutt and Vidyadeesha Tirtha Swami of Sri Palimaru Mutt delivered benedictions at the function. Vishvesha Tirtha swamiji praised Prof. Puranik for reaching out to weaker sections of society, particularly women through the Govanitashraya Trust managed by him. N. Vinaya Hegde, Chairman, Nitte Education Trust, who was the chief guest lauded the role of Prof. Puranik in fostering and promoting educational institutions known for imparting value-based education. K. Narahari, South Central Regional Karyavaha of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and Manohar Prasad, Chief of Bureau, Udayavani, Mangalore, felicitated Prof. Puranik. Prof. Puranik thanked the Abhinandana Samiti headed by litterateur Aerya Lakshminarayana Alva for recognising his services in various spheres of society. He assured to rededicate his efforts to the causes that he has been working all along with support from friends and peers. The samiti released a felicitation book "Boovaraha" and souvenir "Lokarpita" to mark the occasion.
Seminar
Ananthakrishna, Chairman of Karnataka Bank Ltd., inaugurated a seminar organised as part of the programme. Resource persons spoke on "Role of life of youth in the present day situation and their past heritage", "Service and joy" and "Mentality of present day women". P. Prarthana Rao rendered a classical music programme prior to the programme.
