NALGONDA: In the wake of an escalation in the activities of fundamentalist forces in the district, elaborate security arrangements have been made for the President APJ Abdul Kalam's visit to the town on Monday. He will be here for two hours and fifteen minutes on Monday.

"Reacting to a letter penned by a beneficiary of Floor Reaction Orthosis, a walking aid developed by him for polio-affected persons, the President is visiting the district headquarters. About 1,000 beneficiaries drawn from Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts will attend the programme," the Collector, K. Vijayanand said. Incidentally, the 10,000th caliper is fitted in the district.

Felicitation

Dr. Kalam will felicitate the FRO research project team before addressing the gathering at Nagarjuna Degree College grounds.

The NATCO Trust, which is involved in the project, is organizing the event.

The Superintendent of Police, M.M.Bhagwat, said that more than 1,000 men were deployed in and around the town and foolproof arrangements were made. The entire town has been divided into four sectors — Halipad in Mekala Abhinav Stadium, Road rout, R&B guest house and Meeting venue — and a gazetted officer is made in charge of each spot. Barricades are erected on both sides of the road through which the President's convey passes. According to the Blue Book, three helipads are prepared in the Stadium.

Parking lots

The President will land here at 2.15 p.m. and leave by 4.30 p.m.

Mr. Bhagwat advised people not to bring mobile phones to the venue of the meeting.

"Cell phones, lighters and match boxes are not allowed," he said. Agricultural Market Yard, Fire Station are marked as parking lots.

Air Force officials have been monitoring the security arrangements for the last two days.
