Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Mylapore, Foreshore Estate, Tharamani, Tondiarpet, Park Town and Royapettah on Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Camp for

special children

St. Thomas Hospital is conducting `Humanity 2006', an awareness camp that offers free, comprehensive treatment for special children, from January 9 to January 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For further details, contact 22343233/22325182.

Free eye camp

Rajan Eye Care Hospital in association with Metropolitan Transport Corporation conducted free eye screening camps in connection with Road Safety Week at all depots in the city.

Over 1,000 persons including drivers, conductors, other employees and family members were screened for various eye diseases. A team of doctors led by Mohan Rajan, Director, Rajan Eye Care Hospital conducted the camps.

About 46 persons were identified with cataract and recommended free surgery with IOL implantation at Rajan Eye Care Hospital. Free medicines and spectacles were given to 467 employees.

Fatally knocked down

A 60-year-old man was fatally knocked down by a water tanker near his house at Nuthanchery, Madambakkam, near Tambaram on Saturday. Selaiyur police said Balakrishnan, a retired employee of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation, was walking towards his house when the tanker hit him, killing him on the spot.

VHS unit fete

The Institute of Neurological Sciences at Voluntary Health Services is celebrating four decades of service in community neurology on January 11.

On the occasion, six Corporate Social Responsibility-aided initiatives will be launched. The Institute will also hold two commemorative lectures by Ninan Mathew and V. S. Ramachandran.
