Turning the focus on road safety
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
The Regional Transport Office, Chennai (East) celebrated the 17th Road Safety Week with a series of awareness programmes last week. The road safety week, celebrated from January 2 to 8, included a slew of programmes for children and adults in the regions falling under the RTO.
St. John's Ambulance conducted a first aid demonstration on the first day. Pulianthope police inspector Kamil Basha spoke on drunken driving. In another programme held near Salt Cotaurs, the need for motorcyclists to wear helmets was stressed. A rally was held and pamphlets with slogans on road safety and helmet wearing were distributed.
Motor vehicle inspectors of the RTO participated in a programme held jointly with Goodwill Auto rickshaw Association near Central Railway Station for auto rickshaw and tourist taxi drivers.
