RTC fails public

In the absence of seven-seater autorickshaws, the plight of office-goers in the morning and evening is miserable. The RTC has clearly failed to cater to the needs of the travelling public. The elderly and women are forced to stand in the packed buses. It is common sight to see students with heavy bags hanging precariously. Against the total failure of the RTC, seven-seater autos have come to the rescue of the common man. It is, therefore, requested of the authorities concerned to reconsider ban on seven seater autos for the benefit of the common man.

Political interference

Politicians are playing havoc resulting in threats to security and economy of our State. On Independence Day 2004 a hardcore ISI agent Mujeeb, who was imprisoned for life was released from jail.

This decision was taken by the Congress Government on the insistence of Home Minister Jana Reddy. Mujeeb was involved in killing Addl. SP Krishna Prasad and the police with great difficulty risked their life to nab him. When the list was prepared the then DGP and the DG Prisons should have impressed upon the Government to stop his release. Mujeeb continued his anti-national activities even after his release. Today he was arrested again for his anti-national activities. What a shame for the Government? Do they now understand what a grave mistake they had done? Shahbaz Husain,

Illogical move

By exempting the minority educational institutions but requiring only private Hindu institutions to provide reservations for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the 104th Constitution Amendment Bill shows up the secular parties as what they are appeasing the minorities, at the cost of Hindus in Andhra Pradesh. Muslims are to get 5 per cent reservation in educational institutions even as they have disproportionate number of professional colleges (Article 30) and in Government jobs. The Congress Government in Karnataka is working for a Muslim University. If Muslims have these now, Christians cannot be denied, then logically both communities will have separate electorates as before Independence in 1947. MIM leader Salahuddin Owaisi has called for one Muslim-majority State to be carved out of each existing States in India. The next step will be a federation of Islamic States of India.

Hail `Mr. Clean'

The launching of `Mr. Clean' ushers in a long cherished dream of Hyderabad city of a green, clean and noise free atmosphere from the year 2006 onwards.

I hope it does not remain a dream but becomes a reality, lest `Mr. Clean' suffocates and becomes an asthmatic for the rest of his life.

Use of seat belts

It is understood that the High Court has directed the State Government to ensure that seat belts are used by four-wheeler users from next month. Seat belts are provided as original fitment in the later models of cars but the earlier models lack such facility. Nor is it possible to incorporate them now.

It is therefore suggested that cars not having the seat belts as original fitment may be exempted at least while plying inside the city limits where the traffic is normally slow moving. M. I. Suryanarayana,

Noise pollution

On A.K. Mohanty taking over as Commissioner of Hyderabad Police, I had represented to him about the noise pollution in the area around Nalgonda crossroads due to explosion of crackers in wedding halls late into the night.

He had deputed an inspector to enquire into the matter and the official visited me and took down the details. There are about a dozen marriage halls within a radius of half-a-kilometre around Malakpet and Nalgonda crossroads, which violate laws and cause noise pollution late in the night. I appeal to the Commissioner to kindly look into the issue and oblige receive the blessings of the suffering residents.

Kadir Zaman,
