State seeks restoration of cut in food subsidy
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
Minister for Agriculture and Civil Supplies N. Raghuveera Reddy and Commissioner Civil Supplies Bhanwarlal have been asked to go to New Delhi immediately to request the Centre to roll back the cut in the food subsidy to the State.
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy gave these instructions following the imposition of a cut in subsidy by the Centre as a result of which the burden on State Government will increase to around Rs. 500 or Rs. 600 crores annually. Dr. Reddy, who held a review meeting with senior officials on Sunday, also asked Mr. Raghuveera Reddy to persuade the Centre to increase the allotment of rice for above poverty line families from 1.06 to 2.39 lakh tonnes.
