Sub-standard milk

Consumers of milk and milk products are exploited both by the Milma and private milk suppliers from outside the State. Unlike other States in India, in south India milk is supplied after removing the fat. The hapless consumers are used to this exploitation and are not even inclined to protest, as they know that their voice will never be heard or attended to in our lofty ideas of democratic rule.

Sub-standard milk coming from other States can easily be stopped at the check posts by checking them using lactometers. The same method should be adopted in the case of local suppliers also. The exploitation by Milma is different. They should charge more for milk with fat and if necessary two types of milk should be supplied. To supply watery milk to everyone is a mass exploitation unheard of in a democratic set up.Sub-standard milk from other States should be sent back mercilessly at the check posts itself.

Ensure quality

In Government schools the students are now supplied with eggs along with midday meal. The decision of the Government is praiseworthy. Most of the children studying in Government schools are in a state of privation and suffer from malnutrition. The supply of eggs once a week to the children will help them in a big way as nutritional supplement, as most of them are on the fringe of starvation.

Incidentally, during festive season, students were also supplied with rice at 5 kg per head. But, there had been complaints from various quarters that the rice supplied to the children was of inferior quality. If there are financial constraints the quantity of rice may be reduced and better quality rice supplied.
