AISF asks students to join politics

Staff Reporter

Newly-elected president says democracy is under threat

HYDERABAD: All-India Students Federation (AISF) president P. Muralidhar has called for increased students' participation in politics as Indian democracy is "under threat" with the deteriorating image of politicians.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the newly elected president said it was time students played a more active role in our political system to cleanse corruption and save democracy. Student organisations too had some responsibility to ensure this.

Mr. Muralidhar called for scientific, secular and job-oriented education and said communalisation of education should be stopped. He said the AISF outright rejected the move to invite Foreign Direct Investment in education.
