Raids on to arrest

phone-tapping accused

NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of the Delhi police has been conducting raids to track down the fourth accused in the alleged illegal tapping case in which the telephone of Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh was being tapped on forged authorisation documents.

While the police have so far arrested two private detectives, Bhupender Singh and Anurag, and a Reliance Infocomm employee, Kuldeep, in connection with the phone tapping case, they have launched a hunt for Vijay Pal who is suspected to have worked as a middleman in the whole affair.

Investigations so far have indicated that Vijay acted as a carrier for the money that was paid to Bhupender, the owner of Metro Intelligence Agency, to allegedly tap Mr. Singh's phone. It is learnt that Bhupender was into the tapping business for the past several months and he had good links in different mobile service provider firms. While a hunt is on for Vijay, the police have not yet disclosed the motive of the accused behind tapping the phone of the Samajwadi Party leader.

Civic amenities to

get a boost: Sheila

NEW DELHI: East Delhi is all set to witness tremendous infrastructural development in the run up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held here, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today.

She said construction of the Games Village in the Trans Yamuna area would not only catalyse all-round development of the area but would also ensure civic services and infrastructure at part with the most developed localities of New Delhi and South Delhi.

Dikshit was speaking after inaugurating the development work on Gokulpur Drain at Gamri road, Ghonda, in East Delhi.

Addressing the local residents, the Chief Minister said her government was fully aware of the developmental needs of the Trans-Yamuna area.

Unable to marry lover, woman ends life

NEW DELHI: Unable to marry her lover, a woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in an East Delhi area, police said today.

Shikha, in her early twenties, allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her Shakarpur home yesterday evening.

She was alone in the house when she took the extreme step. Her mother had gone to the market, while her father, a bank employee, was away at work, police said. Shikha was having an affair with one Mahesh, but her parents fixed her marriage with another man of their choice.

She left behind a suicide note, in which she said she was taking the extreme step as she was not able to marry Mahesh.

Fake MRF tyres,

two arrested

NEW DELHI: Police today raided a firm supplying fake MRF tyres and tubes in a North Delhi area and arrested two persons in this connection.

Acting on a complaint from the MRF company, a North District police team raided G S Enterprises located on S P Mukherjee Marg in Lahori Gate area of the city, a police spokesman said.

Duplicate tyres and tubes bearing the MRF brand worth Rs 10 lakh were recovered in the raid.

While the owner of the firm is absconding, police arrested the manager of the outlet, Nipin, and a worker, Nitin.

A case has been registered in the Lahori Gate police station and further investigation is on, the spokesman added.
