Indrani Dutta

Kolkata: The Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys Academy received its single largest donation of Rs. 60 lakh on Monday from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC), which donated the money for purchasing an imported computerised braille printing machine.

Swami Asaktananda, secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur, said the money would be used to import from Norway, a machine for printing Braille books from the primary to the graduate level for the visually-challenged students in six languages. These books will be in English, Bengali, Oriya, Assamese, Sanskrit and Manipuri.

The principal of the Blind Boys school, S. Pattanayak, told The Hindu that 180 students were studying in the school, which was giving vocational training. ONGC director human resources A. K. Balyan said the ONGC had decided to participate in a big way in such initiatives, which help less-privileged sections of society.
