This Day That Age
Pakistan will be known as the "Islamic Republic of Pakistan" and only a Muslim can be the Head of State, according to the country's new draft Constitution released to the press on January 8 in Karachi. The draft Constitution will be presented by the Law Minister, Mr. I.I. Chundrigar, to the Constituent Assembly. The new Constitution will give Pakistan a strong Centre with a 300-member single chamber in which East and West Pakistan will have equal representation. The Cabinet will be responsible to the National Assembly. It appears that all pleadings by non-Muslim members of the Constituent Assembly in the Coalition Party that all citizens of the country should have equal rights and opportunities have fallen on deaf ears.
