dated January 10, 1956: Delhi will have new face

Building activity on a scale never before seen in the country's capital is now being carried on by the CPWD under a scheme estimated to cost about Rs.11 crores. When it is completed, the capital will have 11 new imposing public buildings plus residential accommodation for 80 per cent of the Central Government employees by the end of 1957. The construction projects include massive and artistic structures like the Supreme Court buildings, the National Museum, the UNESCO hostel, the multi-storeyed Government of India office buildings, the new jail, in addition to the modern type flats and bungalows of varying sizes.
