Phone tapping

The hue and cry being raised by the Samajwadi Party and other Opposition parties over allegations of phone tapping is surprising. Millions of messages are exchanged everyday over the Internet, telephones, and fax machines. Many of them are recorded by someone, somewhere without our knowledge. The common man is not worried about this. Why should people in public life be so alarmed about the tapping, when their actions are expected to be above board? In this age of right to information and need for transparency, there is no need to protect people in power in the name of privacy.
