Karwar: President of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Chandrashekhar Patil has said that literature should strengthen human relations and be a bridge between different sections of society to create love and harmony. Inaugurating the Ankola taluk literary meet at Ankola on Sunday, he said that even after 50 years of reorganisation of States, Bangalore still remains alien to Kannadigas. The people of the State are yet to develop emotional attachment with Bangalore. He said awareness should be created among Kannadigas to love Kannada. The literary meets provide a platform to send such message, he said. Mr. Patil said after the Gokak movement, Kannadigas were awakened. This awakening should be a continuous process, he said and pointed out that globalisation has posed a great threat to the Kannada language. Kannada Sahitya Parishat, in its 91 years of existence, has been working towards creating social and cultural awareness among the people. Rohidas Naik, president of Uttar Kannada district Sahitya Parishat, said people should develop the habit of purchasing and reading Kannada books. He criticised the tendency among the people to develop only working knowledge of Kannada. Literature and language grow only when there are readers, he said. He released five new books. Sham Huddar said the contribution of Ankola to literature and education is remarkable. He said people such as Dinakar Desai and Sa. Pa. Goankar have enriched Kannada literature. M.G. Hegde, literary critic was chief guest. A poets' a meet was organised in which 30 poets participated. Shantaram Naik presided over the meet. Vishweshwar Hegde, MLA, delivered the valedictory address. Pralhad Agasankatti, writer, released a souvenir.
