Bidar: The Public Property Protection Committee has called for a "Bidar bandh" on Tuesday in protest against land-grabbers in Bidar. "The district administration's drive to demolish illegal structures on encroached land in the city should continue. We condemn the State Government's move to halt the drive," Committee convenors Vijay Kumar Sonare and Shashidhar Hosalli said here on Monday. They told presspersons that everyone is equal before the law. If the poor and the rich have encroached lands, both should be punished, Mr. Sonare said. "The Government, which promised us a medical college, is now protecting people who have encroached upon land meant for it," he alleged. "Our fight against land-grabbers will continue. If the Government does not allow the district administration to go ahead with the demolition, we will demolish the structures," Mr. Hosalli said. Committee president Revanasiddappa Jalade threatened to gherao Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh when he arrives here to inaugurate the 72nd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Bidar. Powerful politicians in the district are trying to get Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil transferred. Communist Party of India district general secretary Baburao Honna urged Bidar MP Narsingrao Suryavanshi and Minister for Forests Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli's daughter Saraswati to cede their land, if proved that their houses were in encroached land. "They should donate their land to the government medical college. Poor people in villages donate their land to the village primary school and play ground. But the rich try to grab government land.," he said. The district administration is trying to clear encroachments on survey numbers 15 and 16 of Gullar Haveli in Bidar. Over 30 buildings have been demolished till now.
