Nellore: It was a pall of gloom and a stream of mourning visitors at Kavali town in Nellore district, on Sunday evening, when the body of Atmakuri Prasad (29), arrived from Colombo to a tearful farewell. The tragedy occurred when the victim was supposed to join a new posting at Hyderabad in the last week of this month.
A brilliant student
Prasad was a brilliant student and belonged to the first batch of B.Tech of a private engineering college at Kavali town. After completing his studies, he was working in various tele-services companies and due to his qualities of leadership was deputed to Colombo a few months ago. The only son of Chenchaiah, an official of the Marketing Department and Sulochana, he was shot at by some unidentified miscreants on last Wednesday night from behind, at a suburb of Colombo, where he had gone out for dinner. He was immediately rushed to Colombo National Hospital, but succumbed to bullet injuries. His death has come at a time when the family was about to come out of financial stringencies and it had shattered the hopes of his parents. Prasad's two sisters have already been married.
Applied for new job
Enquiries revealed that Prasad, along with his friend, had applied for a job in Hyderabad and both of them have been selected. While his friend has already joined duties, Prasad was expected to join in the last week of January. The news about his death was conveyed to his brother-in-law at Hyderabad, who in turn informed to Kavali. Among those who consoled Prasad's parents on Sunday included the Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, Kavali MLA Magunta Parvatamma, Municipal Chairman Srinivas Kiron and a number of his classmates. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan Government is said to be investigating the incident.
