Award for Arundhati Roy

NEW DELHI:
Booker Prize-winner Arundhati Roy has been awarded the 2005 Sahitya Akademi Award in English for her book of essays, `The Algebra of Infinite Justice.' The award, recommended by a three-member jury, was approved on Monday by Akademi president Gopi Chand Narang.
According to a release issued by the Akademi, the collection of essays was a unanimous recommendation for the award given to books first published between January 2001 and December 2003. Ms. Roy will be presented the award, comprising a plaque and a cash component of Rs. 50,000, at a function here on February 21.
