Maruti again hikes prices

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Maruti Udyog on Monday announced hike in prices of all its models ranging from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 15,000, attributing it to increased input costs. The new prices have come into effect immediately.

This is the second price hike in three months. The earlier price hike was effected by MUL in October last, saying that the rising oil prices were the cause for price the revision. It was then said that only a part of the impact of the increase in freight and other input costs was being passed on to the customers and a possible price revision may be undertaken in early 2006.

According to the latest announcement, the entry-level Maruti 800 will be costlier by Rs. 3,000 like the popular model Alto. The latest offering Swift witnesses an increase of Rs. 3,500 hike on the base model while the mid and top-end variants will be costlier by Rs. 10,000.

The price increase in the case of the Zen and the WagonR is Rs. 5,000, while the highest impact will be on the prices of the SUV Grand Vitara which will see the prices go by as much as Rs. 15,000.

The mid-size Baleno and the Esteem will be dearer by Rs. 3,000, while the MPV `Versa' will be dearer by Rs. 12,000.

The Omni van will cost Rs. 1,500 more while the hike in the case of its LPG variant is Rs. 3,000.
