New facilities in park

Special Correspondent

Srikakulam: With a view to attracting more people, speedboats and peddling boats were introduced in the Vijayaditya Park on the outskirts of the town on Monday. A cafeteria was also opened.

The management of the park--only of its kind in the district--which was with the Exhibition Society, was taken over by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation on Monday. Collector A.Koteswara Rao formally inaugurated the renovated park.

APTDC director Y.Venkata Naidu, who was present at the function, said that the corporation had sanctioned Rs.50 lakhs for the development of tourist spots in the district. The concentration would be on the Madduvalasa reservoir, Telineelapuram bird sanctuary and pilgrim tourism. Plans for construction of cottages for accommodating tourists were being finalised.

The search was on for a suitable site, Mr.Naidu said. Srikakulam is the midpoint between Visakhapatnam and Itchapuram, which forms the border with the neighbouring State of Orissa and has good tourist potential, Mr.Naidu said.
