KANNUR: The Kannur revenue district school festival will begin at Kannur Government Vocational Higher Secondary School and nearby venues on January 11. Organising committee general convener and deputy director of education K. Raveendran and joint convener C.H. Valsan said at a press conference here on Monday that 4,000 students from 15 sub-districts and 11 TTIs in the district will take part in the event. Tourism Minister K.C. Venugopal will formally inaugurate the function at 4 p.m. on January 12. K. Sudhakaran, MLA, will attend. The valedictory function on January 15 will be inaugurated by A.P. Abdullakutty, MP. K.C. Joseph, MLA, will attend the function. The five-day cultural fete will be held at eight venues, they said. From this year onwards, the school youth festival will be known as Kerala School Arts Festival. New items included in the competition are monoact (boys/girls), mimicry (boys/girls), Oppana (boys), Hindi elocution and Chakyarkoothu (boys). Fancy dress has been exempted from the items as were group items such as group song, the organisers said. There will be 15 items in all instead of 20, they added.
