PONDICHERRY: As many as 13 students of the Dr Ambedkar Government Law College in Kalapet in Pondicherry were injured on Monday following a group clash on the college campus. The incident happened around 10.30 a.m. Students freely used bricks, iron rods, pipes and wooden sticks that were lying around the campus where construction activity is on. The injured were taken to the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital for treatment. Of the 13 injured, four were treated as outpatients. All but one, Joseph Anand, are out of danger. Joseph and three others got head injuries. Police said the group clash was the result of enmity between junior and senior students. Last week there was a small problem in the college and students were about to beat up each other. And in continuation of that one student was assaulted in the bus stand and two persons were arrested in connection with that case. B Ramaskandhan, Superintendent of Police (North), who visited the students at the PIMS and also at the college told The Hindu that they registered a case against 14 students and some other persons for "attempt to murder. Atmosphere was tense in the college and a posse of police has been posted at the college. "The college will remain closed until the end of Pongal holidays. We will review the situation after that. We also want to conduct some kind of counselling for students who were involved in the clash today", said the college Principal M Abdul Razak Kaffur Khan.
