BELLARY: Ashirwad High School in Cantonment area in the city, established in 1980, will celebrate its silver jubilee on Tuesday and Wednesday. The school had a humble beginning at Babu Naidu Bungalow owned by Ravindra Naidu and his wife Geeta Naidu. It had a distinct identity with all the other schools in the region being Christian missionary institutions. A kindergarten was set up in three rooms of the bungalow. Then it became a primary school with 500 students. The next phase of expansion was from 1985-88 when it became a middle school. In 1995, Ashirwad became a high school. Till 1999, only girls were admitted into the high school section. Later, it became a co-education school. The high school has an excellent track record and the average result has been 97 per cent success in the SSLC examinations since it was set up. The school has two laboratories with 20 computers. The school has set aside one hour daily for cultural activities. Students are coached by experts in the field of classical dance, western dance, crafts, and needlework. Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash will inaugurate the silver jubilee and release a souvenir. Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Minister Ramalinga Reddy will lay the foundation stone for the silver jubilee block.
