`Himachal on road to rapid industrial development'

SHIMLA: Although the massive investment claims in industry by the State government are yet to be verified, a spokesman of the Himachal Pradesh Government has claimed here that a gigantic investment of Rs 15,917 crore has been made in the industrial sector in the State during the short tenure of the incumbent government. It has made exceptional strides in the industrial development as compared to some other hill States in the region. An employment potential for about 2.26 lakh people has also been created in past about 2.5 years only, he said.

Over 32,328 small-scale industrial units and 282 medium and large scale units with an investment of Rs. 4016 crore and employment to more than 1.82 lakh persons are already in existence in the State till date. The State Government has revamped and streamlined its procedures to facilitate the industrial development, claimed the spokesman.

With a view to provide umbrella support to existing and new industrial ventures, the State Government has set up State-Level Single Window Clearance and Monitoring Authority in the State in 2004 which is meeting frequently and ensuring expeditious clearances of industrial units. Rhino, a multi-utility vehicle, will also be manufactured in hill State of Himachal Pradesh, informed the spokesman. The credit for this venture goes to the revolutionary industrial policy of the State Government, under which the entrepreneurs have been provided package of incentives besides pollution free and peaceful environment, abundant and cheap supply of electricity and above all investor friendly governance are the added advantages in Himachal, said the spokesman.
