KOTTAYAM: M.C. Varghese, founder and Chief Editor of Mangalam Group of Publications, is no more. He was 73. Mr. Varghese, who was keeping indifferent health for some time, suffered a heart attack and was taken to a private hospital in the town where he breathed his last on Monday morning. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the cemetery of Lourdes Forane Church. Mr. Varghese's body will be kept at the headquarters of Mangalam Publications for the public to pay homage at noon on Tuesday. Describing Mr. Varghese as a committed editor and a reputed philanthropist, Governor R.L. Bhatia recalled that he had risen from humble beginnings through hard work and determination and had always evinced a flair for social service. Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan also recalled his humble beginnings and pointed out that the concept of `community marriage' received its true meaning with Mr. Varghese conducting mass marriages.
