TAMBARAM: An awareness camp to highlight the dangers of obesity and the importance of proper diet for children was organised by the Pasumai Thaayagam and the Lions Club of Tambaram East. Sowmya Anbumani, president of Pasumai Thaayagam was the chief guest at the camp inaugurated by P. Ramesh Babu, Governor, Vice-District Governor, Lions Club 324-A6.

The camp aimed at highlighting the dangers of obesity, particularly among elders, and also the importance of proper diet for school students who were consuming more junk food of late. In the absence of a healthy diet, and given the increasing consumption of junk food, students faced health problems, which reflected in declining academic grades.

More than 1,000 students attended the camp held on Saturday and Sunday at St. Marks Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chromepet.

Posters decrying the current unhealthy trends in the dietary habits of children and obesity-related problems were on display.
